The new LOVE of the Millenials

Love has always become a much heated topic around the social media nowadays. Some experiences for the better but some for the worse. Our daily interaction with different people in different places has ruled much on the way we treat them. There may be some who treat different types of people similarly but some also sees the same people differently. Take note that ‘crush’ as a type of admiration is different from love, and I think few people these days understand the real definition of it that makes love as the most overused word in today’s era.

The uprising ‘confession’ pages over the social media has become an open ground for those ‘hopeless’ individuals who were not acknowledged by their crushes, minus those that brought serious concerns of course. A friend in PUP says that such pages have pros and cons. Pros because it made people aware of the issues that exist in the organization especially to the institution in which these pages originates and cons because such pages trigger conflicts with too much exercise of the freedom of expression that should bear responsibility.

Some also uses these pages to express their admiration to somebody that may in turn have a positive result perhaps maybe the recipient is also a follower of that page. Well everyone is open to comment whatever they wish to say (I hope they took responsibility on it). However, I would like to focus this very short article to the ‘new love’ of this generation, called ‘generation z’, and their behavior.

Sometimes I find the confession pages enjoying but there are some that really annoys me. Some aren’t supposed to be shared. There are things that should remain private. Well maybe the generation today is different from the generation before but I do believe that all of us are still product of that old era. I mean traditional ways, the Maria Clara customs and illiberalism, among others As we are getting away to conservatism, I am afraid that a drastic shift to freethinking may hurt not only the tradition but also the religion, the faith and the history that keep our hopes and aspirations alive.

Consequently, when today’s youth are converted to unconventional doings, the belief of marriage because of love is replaced by marriage because of pregnancy. Pre-marital sex has become a common event all around, so sad to hear news that an 8-year old boy sexually abused a 5-year old girl, victims and doers became younger and younger these days. What has become to this world that is overtaken by pleasure, desire, liberalism and materialism? Really have gone very far. The new love is no longer the love that is selfless, unconditional and forgiving but a love that is anchored by lust and pleasure, believed to what has been desirable and will give temporary delight.

This is one shortcoming of too much freedom, when one is entitled to give their own opinion but opinions are groundless and empty, when one hurts others and are filled with too much pride, when one believes that he is right and no one can contest such conviction is so far from humility and modesty. Additionally, teenagers nowadays are so accustomed to the word forever. Many of them believed there is no forever. How can one say such when we have our parents there, tirelessly taking care of us?

Love that is founded by moral principles, decency, goodness and righteousness, while preserving the tradition and committed to the faith measures the real love that lasts a lifetime. . Since we haven’t loose entirely our strings yet to the norms and standards that I believe is morally right, the use of social media can be in some way advantageous especially in spreading what is good, right and just, if only these are used in virtuous ways.
